My mom turned 75 last week, and we had fun looking through old photos at her party. I found several boxes of photographs at my parents' house, some dating back to the early 1900s. I also came across some pictures I had never seen until this month - pictures of my dad and his brother when they owned a grocery store in the early 1950s. They were still in the original envelope!
I'm in the process of preserving these treasures: Organizing, scanning, making copies and disks to share, putting the originals in a safe place. There are also some negatives from the late 40's, which I took to a reliable, local photo shop to be developed. The time spent preserving my family's history and legacy is worthwhile and valuable - after all, somebody thought was worthwhile to take the pictures in the first place.
